Hamlet  (1601), William Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, explores 
the ranges of the human psyche as the young prince of Denmark revels 
in his father’s death. Hamlet suspects foul play and searches his soul 
for the conviction to carry out his vengeful desires but he is plagued by 
indecision. When he finally acts, it is with dire consequences. The play 
set a standard for theatrical exploration of man’s inner thoughts.
